Lubricant Guide

Which lubes are safe for SSTPE — and which ones will ruin it.

This is the single most important care rule for any SSTPE product: use the right lubricant.

The wrong lube doesn't just make a mess — it chemically reacts with SSTPE and causes permanent damage. The surface turns sticky, gummy, and eventually breaks down. There's no fixing it once it happens.

The short answer

Lubricant Type Safe for SSTPE? Verdict
Water-based ✅ YES The only type you should use
Silicone-based ❌ NO Will permanently damage SSTPE
Oil-based ❌ NO Degrades the material over time
Hybrid ❌ NO Contains silicone — unsafe
Petroleum-based ❌ NO Breaks down TPE material

If you remember nothing else: water-based only. Everything else is a no.

Why water-based lubricant?

  • No chemical reaction. Water-based formulas don't interact with the TPE polymer chains.
  • Easy cleanup. Just rinse with warm water. No residue.
  • Body-safe. Generally hypoallergenic and non-irritating.
Shopping tip: Check the label. Look for "water-based" or "aqua-based". If you see "dimethicone" or "silicone", put it back.

What happens with the wrong lube?

Silicone-based lube: This is the worst. It dissolves into the TPE structure. Within hours, the surface becomes sticky and swollen. The damage is irreversible.
Oil-based lube: Oil penetrates SSTPE and weakens molecular bonds. The material softens and loses elasticity over time.
⚠ Important: SSTPE damage from incompatible lubricants is not covered under warranty.

How to apply properly

1. Apply generously. Use enough to reduce friction and protect the material.
2. Apply to both surfaces. Put lube on yourself and inside the channel.
3. A little water revives it. If it gets tacky, a few drops of water will reactivate it.
